Beautiful. Wish I had some kibbie and cabbage rolls today.

It justifies a 120-mile round trip
on the Harley … not justifies—sanctifies … just for a slice of Chamoun’s chocolate meringue pie. My oh my.

Wow! Beautiful… I think a road trip may indeed be in order. How’s the rest of the menu? Mediterranean/Levantine? Or, Delta diner?

  4. Flubber says:

Is this the same as “chess pie?”

Wish that’s where I was headed for Court in the morning. Does anyone have any recommendations for Greenwood besides the Alluvian? The Alluvian is good, but I would like to try something new, maybe inexpensive too?

  6. NMC says:

Probably the Crystal, DLM, which you can read about here.

  7. NMC says:

“chess pie” does not have a meringue on top of it the way these pies do, Flubber.

    Rest of the menu:

    1) Diner food (burgers, great looking onion rings, blts, etc, and a weekday lunch special). I’ve never tried it but it’s obviously the engine that drives the place. They look good.

    2) Breakfast: A good southern breakfast place.

    3) Lebanese: Good cabbage rolls, grapeleaves, and kibbe. Not close to what you can get at Marie’s in Oxford, but I like it a lot.

The pies, on the other hand, are second only to the Family Pie Store in DeVall’s Bluff Ark for this sort of thing.

I always enjoy going there when in Clarksdale.

Thanks NMC. I’ve been burned by web reviews on the road, so I now prefer to get them from a reliable source. Does my memory fail me or is Chamoun’s Rest Haven at least 40 years old?

Hey Guys, (DFWBHB = Delta From Way Back – Headed Back) as a “metro” area lawyer, regardless of the issues over the past few years, I never felt obliged to comment until Chamoun’s was a topic. The “kibbeh” “sandwich” that Shafite (sorry for the spelling if wrong, pronounced {Shafeet} – dare ya to play redneck poker with him) makes is far superior than anything anyone can ever hope to find anywhere. It is considered to be a “Grand Slam” (among true “hunters” — those that could care less about killing anything) when traveling to the Delta to duck hunt (whether you actually shoot at ducks or not) to get both a “kibbeh sandwich” and a Big Abe Chili-Cheese on the same day. In the 10th grade at Lee Academy, you could “skip” your lunch period so long as you brought Ms. Brandon a kibbeh sandwich (sorry Ms. B.) upon your return (actually at City (aka Clarksdale High – L.C. would let you do the same thing) — back then, Chamoun’s was a grocery at the bottom of the “Hill” (there ain’t many hills in Clarksdale – Chamoun’s grocery was at the bottom of hill below the Catholic Church) The Chamouns later began serving their same great food out of Resthaven. No, I’m not related to the Chamoun’s, but would be proud if I was Cheers, DFWBHB

There’s a really good BBQ place less than a block from the court house. Steven’s BBQ at 208 Fulton Street in Greenwood. Really nice people. Very good food. Easy, easy walk from the court house.

    Observer @ 11 Thank you!

Delta Law Mama – check out Delta Bistro (just off Market Street downtown), Lusco’s (open only for dinner), or Yianni’s (just off Hwy 82 behind the Taco Bell). All three have fantastic food. All three can be a little pricey, but they are delicious nonetheless.

  14. DeltaLawMama says:

Thank you, Ignatius! Ten minutes into my journey to Greenwood, the opposition called to let me know that the Judge needed to postpone our hearing today. Saved me a long, long, trip, but I will still get to lunch in Greenwood on the 27th instead.

I’m sure the recipe for this delicious pie starts out with…
    1 stick butter
    2 cups sugar
    3 eggs….
    Yummmmmm…..
