Logan Murphy at Crooks&Liars found a clip that shows exactly why Rush Limbaugh had to take to radio. He literally can’t do his shtick on television or without a pre-screened audience.

I don’t wish ill on Leader Rush. Well, not too much.
But, having spent too many decades watching nemesis crush hubris at just about every turn, and having watched Rush in his corpulent, black-clad presentation at the CPAC gathering last week, I expect him, meaning various internal and organic parts of him, to explode presently. I mean that rather literally.
You know, as in being dispatched to that place Sen. Bunning (who has lost everything on his fastball) recently slated for Associate Justice Ginsburg’s near future.
It would be a great loss for the Democrats.
Back in the day in Mississippi we called people like Rush holy-roller preachers, and dang, poor Jim and Tammy Faye came along and poof they just all disappeared.
He’s beyond holy-roller, he’s a windowlicker. A maggot. I could go on, but it would be unseemly. He sure got eaten alive in these clips. He needs to pop a couple of dozen Oxycontin and relax. But I’m with you, notbowie, at 1, on his explosion or implosion (either) being a great loss to Democrats.
Oh tsk, Mag, gotcherseff thrown into indefinite detention in Pith&Vinegar for that one.
This new, sudden fascination with Rush is pretty puzzling. Rush has been expressing his conservative principles on the airwaves for quite some time, and all the while angering democrats and republicans on occasions. I am not certain what is “new” or controversial about this, other than perhaps we are apparently no longer allowed to criticize the sitting president. The Obama camp’s singling out of a radio talk show host and openly attacking him is very unpresidential and somewhat disturbing in its intent.
Rush’s voice has been one to make many politicians of both parties uncomfortable over the years. And that, IMO, is a good thing. For instance, during Rush’s early years, one of his favorite things to do on air was to play a clip from a Congressman’s speech on the house/senate floor on a prior occasion, and then compare it to a later clip of a speech by the same politician on the floor regarding the same topic, in order to demonstrate a 180 degree flip flop. This was especially fun to listen to when a politician who sponsored a bill, and argued for it, would later vote against it and try to pretend that they were always against it (by going on the floor and making a speech for the record to essentially, change history)—an old political trick. This type of hypocrisy and deception is now much rarer, primarily due to Rush’s exposure of it.
Whether one agrees or disagrees, the first amendment protects all voices. The freedom of speech and of the press is one of the most important safeguards and checks and balances upon government that we possess. I don’t agree with many of the opinions expressed here on this site on a daily basis, but certainly believe strongly in your right to express those beliefs and admire and respect the passion of those with whom I disagree.
Rush has never proclaimed to be the “leader of the Republican party”. To the contrary, anyone who has ever taken the time to really listen to him, instead of simply digesting the sheep food, knows that he is an unapologetic conservative on most issues, whether that bucks the republican party or not —and during the last 8 years, Rush has often been very critical of the republican party for deviating from conservative principles. In addition to some democrats, he has drawn the ire of many republicans as well, including most recently Lott, Cochran, and now Steele, as just a few examples. Anyone calling him the “leader of the republican party” is either incredibly stupid or believes that the american public is that stupid —neither is a very flattering or desirable trait.
BTW: I am a little surprised that many here, in violation of what I thought was the policy here at folo, have chosen to ridicule Rush based upon his physical appearance (overweight, looks, etc.). Is the rule still in effect? OR is it open season? OR is there just a special Rush exception?
This national obsession over Rush is starting to resemble the Palin over-reaction. Too funny. Rush’s ratings are out the roof (I had not taken the time to listen to Rush on the radio in over 3 years, until all this recent hullabaloo —-had to check in to see what all the fuss was about — appeared to be the same ol Rush to me — and obviously, I am not the only one who has tuned into his show lately). He should send Rahm Emanuel a thank you note and bottle of his favorite whiskey. I am certain that Rush is smiling about all of this “attention”.
afotl, I must confess that MEGO before I got very far into 5, but now really. We’re deeper into crisis than most people alive have ever seen, some clown wishes failure on the president, and you expect that to get a ho-hum from the country?
What’s wrong with you?
Lotus, that is disingenuous. Rush has said that he does not support Obama’s policies and therefore does not wish for those policies to be successful. That does not mean that he does not wish for the US to be successful. He simply disagrees with the Obama administration on how best to achieve success for the US. Those espousing such (as you stated) about Rush are not being honest or fair. And trying to play the guilt by association game upon me is even worse.
Although I disagree with many of Obama’s proposed policies and truly hope (beyond hope I suppose) that many of them do not become law, I love this country and want only the best for it. I would love to be eating crow one day, but fear that my instincts and negative response to many of his proposals will be proven to be right. I want all of us to not just survive, but thrive.
Many of you railed against Bush’s “you are either with us, or against us” approach to the war of terror, calling him a cowboy and other much worse derogatory names. How is this any different? Is Obama above reproach? Does a “crisis” mean one cannot criticize the president’s policies? Did you apply the same rule for Bush?
afotl, Limbaugh’s exact words were “I want him to fail.” You do know that, don’t you?
Yes, and the context surrounding that statement, as well as his explanations of what he meant by it, support what I said above. Those attempting to use this statement out of proper context no doubt have an agenda.
I personally hope Obama fails in his agenda to: raise taxes, nationalize health care, pass “card check”, come after our 401k plans, create new massive spending programs, treat the war on terror like a glorified police action, ignore our border security concerns, etc. , etc. … Does that make me a villain? Apparently so, under Obama’s variation of “you are either with us(his administation’s policies) or against us( the US)” mindset. There is much irony here.
(just shakes head)
afotl; Limbaugh is popular with his base audience just as Jerry Springer is and Adolph Hitler was popular with a base audience. Popularity is not a reliable indicator of a “leader’s” agenda or in their acting in the best interest of civilization. Plus, I truly find this pompous philistine asshole to be grating, disingenuous and cowardly.
I think comparing Rush to Adolph Hitler is just a tad bit on the extreme side. This is such a worn out old debate tactic (to avoid intelligent discussion) that it should be banned for stupidity.
Tell us Kycol, exactly, and specifically, what positions of Rush do you disagree with and why? And which positions warrant, in your mind, the comparison to Hitler?
I don’t get the fascination of the left with Rush or Palin. Newsflash – YOU WON. You won in a fashion that makes the right obsolete-for now.
If you want to keep that position, show leadership and stay on task with solving problems. Want to let the right gain footing? Play with the red herrings. Even if you are solving problems well (we can debate that all day), it does not comfort the public to see you with your eye off of the ball.
Now, if you can’t solve the problems we face, these little side shows might be nice to distract people, but that is a strategy doomed to failure.
afotl; I compared their mutual popularity, I could have compared their mutual fascist defenders but denied myself that gutter walk. I strongly disagree with Rush on just one position and that is his mouth agape position.
Kycol, its just as I thought. You don’t know jack shit about Rush’s positions — just like the sheep of society, you only know what someone else has told you to think.
afotl; I have listened to Rush and now I have listened to you. I find you both to be a waste of time.
Good day.
P.S. Oh I know Jack Shit and have just now met his brother Fulla.
(sigh) … these posts (my own included) reveal the level to which men like Leader Limbaugh take us … he’s better ignored than dignified with discussion, and we’re all (Chairman Steele included) better off ignoring him …
