The Government wants to keep Langston handy for their ongoing investigation

January 7th, 2009 @ 5:42 pm - by NMC · 20 Comments

The government has filed a motion to delay reporting for Joey Langston, noting that he has a report date of January 15th, that he “is a crucial witness in an ongoing government investigation. It would be most helpful to have him available for personal conferences and telephone calls here in the Northern District of Mississippi.”  They note that they “simply ask[] that he be kept available to government investigators until further order of the court.”

Here’s the document.

Here’s a brief Daily Journal story about it.

Does that likely mean a closer prison for the BOP to consider or that he’ll be kept out of prison until he’s no longer “crucial”?

  2. NMC says:

their asking that he be allowed to wander around the countryside loose.

  3. lotus says:

As I said in the post I was writing as you put this one up, NMC, “This ratchet only moves one way, huh?”

In an editorial just up at JFP, “Heyoka!” concludes:

… Now that “Scruggs II” is coming to light, we have no doubt that the tendrils reach further, both into the Hinds County judicial system and throughout the rest of the state. The feds, as well as state authorities, must do everything in their power to air all the corrupt laundry that held this state back for way too long, regardless of partisanship and who was a frat brother or sorority sister.

I’m pretty certain that, if the feds don’t, ain’t no “state authorities” going to.

Lotus remember Hood can’t press charges against “Family”. He wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.

  6. hatfield says:

Maybe Joey will move to have “Fort Langston” his Booneville
estate declared a Federal Jail. With the Million dollar brick fence he built all he would need to add is a little razor wire at the top and there ya go………

  7. Observer says:

First, by way of disclosure, Joey ain’t no friend of mine and never has been. However, the callousness of a lot of the comments about Joey are disturbing. I think read somewhere recently that “Karma is a bitch.” People should remember that.

Now to get to my reason for posting. Don’t forget Joey has real and significant medical problems. They requested a BOP facility close to Montgomery, Ala., based upon considerations of access to medical care. Once Joey is an inmate, his medical care is on the government’s dime. So (and this is callous in its own way) I’d rather Joey not be locked up any time soon if the tax payer is going to be paying his medical bills.

Finally, whatever reason, this website never wants to let me log in anymore. Which is good, I guess, since few of you ever want to hear anything I got to say.

Observer 7, I don’t know what held up your comment, but you’re not the only regular I’ve had to rescue from the spam-bin the last couple of days.

  10. NMC says:

Observer, I’m not sure what the deal is on logins on the website– I had runs of time in December when I essentially could not post for chunks of time.

As an aside about incarcerating Langston: I’m guessing that the judge will grant the motion to delay his imprisonment. Prior to his sentencing, I thought Langston (who I barely know) was going to get less than 36 months because of the scope of his cooperation, but when I heard Judge Mills explain his sentence, I thought Mills had got it right. What Mills said made for a sensible sentence. I also thought Langston got an incredibly sweet deal with features I’ve not seen in other deals.

One thing I suggest to everybody is what I do: log in here and NEVER LOG OUT. Close the folo window, turn off your computer, whatever — just don’t log out. (NMC and I still occasionally get bedeviled by auto-logouts “backstage,” but I don’t think they’re still happening to commenters. At least I haven’t heard of any lately.)

  12. NMC says:

I browsed back through things I’ve said about Langston since the day of his sentencing, Observer, and really don’t see anything particularly nasty.

Now about Ed Peters I’d have to admit to some, uh, shots on my part. Fact-based, but shots.

  13. Rodney says:

    I’ve never logged in.

  14. lotus says:

Well then, maybe that’s the better way, Rodney. Dunno, but one consistency or t’other seems to help.

  15. magnolia says:

Observer, I’ve always enjoyed your posting.

NMC posted about Joey’s sentencing today and thought the Judge got it just right. Yet (without malice) he stated what a sweet deal Joey got that he had not seen in other deals.

That sweet deal is what Joey will be remembered by, not the bad deed.

Most people can’t remember what Joey actually did, but can tell you what he got for doing it, and will add, now if that had of been me or you we would rot in jail.

The sweet deal just may be Joey’s good fortune and maybe good fortune comes to good people.

    Lotus @ 11,

Kinda like being at the Hotel California, huh?

  17. lotus says:

Well, mag 15, either that or it comes to those who win the race to hire Tony Farese.

    Um, not e g g z a c k l e-y, Phantom 16.

  18. magnolia says:

lotus, I’m not up to par as in getting in a skunk fight right now, but when I do, I’d like to help NMC timeline his book on Scruggs 1. Of course I will need to pay him to keep me in line and my lips zipped.

Oh, and Supertalk Ms. had either read Folo today or someone told them, they were quoting Folo without naming it, and gee I can’t remember what it was, but something maybe on Joey.

Maybe it’s Tony that has such good fortune(slap my face, pinch fingers, think of something sad.) His horoscope lined up about the time the US Marshals walked up.

  19. lotus says:

Shoot, mag, it ain’t enough money in the entire US deficit to keep YOU in line, lips zipped.

Interesting about the talkie show. Hmm.
