That’s good news. Al Franken is a very smart and serious person. He will be a fine addition to the United States Senate. My guess is Sen.Hubert Humphey and Sen. Eugine McCarthy would be pleased.
Eugene
My friends in Minnesota tell me they are doubly encouraged:
first by the numbers, and second by Coleman having been such a jerk for so long to so many that he lacks the political clout to “pull it out” judicially.
3dS, maybe you saw Eric Kleefeld explaining that even if the MN supremes rule for Normie on both his issues, he’ll still be nearly 100 votes behind. And a commenter on that thread (who saw more of the livestream yesterday than I caught) sez, “… there was no identifiable string of Coleman heavy votes. Since the votes were naturally grouped by county that means there is no geographic way the extra 650 rejected absentees they wish to include would be able to overcome Franken’s lead. Unless they are hand picked Republican voters the extra rejected absentees may possibly even expand Franken’s lead. McCain didn’t get a lead like Franken got in the rejected absentee ballots in even the most conservative of Minn. counties.”
I guess that TPM commenter observed the effect of the cause your MN friends are talking about, 3dS. I can attest that the Franken people looked/sounded genuinely floored that in the 954 ballots dealt with yesterday, AF won so many more than they expected. The “Norm’s a jerk” caucus must be larger than anybody guessed (though I can sure see why).
Ahhhh. From the land that elected a former “wrasler”, Jesse “The Body” Ventura, as its Governor, we now have Al Franken, a certified idiot, as a member of the US Senate.
Good lord. Replace one jerk with an even bigger jerk. I am very glad I don’t live in Minnesota, for many reasons.
Perhaps too cold of a climate affects brain function?
Sorry to differ with you “friend,” but I was tempted to move back to MN, just so I could cast my vote…for Al. He may be a jokester, but the man is right “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.”
Again, I say Al Franken is a serious and intelligent guy. And a true Minnesotan. (He probably likes to go ice fishing for walleye on Mille Lacs Lake in February.) We are a bit different, you know, once. So, I want to say, to “friend of the law” [sic?] you think Franken is an idiot and you disparage Jesse Ventura? You do not know what is really going on. Jesse Ventura may have been a “wrestler” and he may not meet the standards we set for a “politician” these days, but he is a smart and practical and decent man. He follows a Minnesota Tradition of unique politicians and intelligent wrestlers with civic interests — i.e., Elmer Benson, a banker who became a DFL politician and Governor of the state Minnesota for a time during the Depression and was a good neighbor and farmer, and Verge Gagne, one of the truest persons who ever was a professional wrestler and who was — well, just a darn good neighbor to the people of Minnesota and the western shores of Lake Minnetonka.
And, if you want a bit of deep history about the true essence of such people, including Hubert Humphey, Gene McCarthy, Arne Carlson, Orville Freemen and others — of the deep thoughtful true liberal tradition of Minnesota — consult the history of the Non-Partisan League in North Dakota. (And, Lawrence Welk, the Andrews Sisters, and Garrison Keillor, if you want a lighter versions of the same ethic.)
Here! Here! Steve…If you have read Al’s satire, you can only come away with the conclusion that the man has been carefully, carefully following and digging deep into right wing BS for over a decade now. The comic relief was a relief when all we could do was either move to Canada or sit back and wait for another turn. “Lying Liars and the Lies They Tell”…Al is up front, obviously brilliant and certain that he will be a serious politician…MN is lucky to have him.
