From Chris Joyner:
A Jackson Police officer has filed a notice of intent to sue Mayor Frank Melton over alleged retaliation for cooperating with the federal investigation of the mayor.
In the notice, Officer Robert Watts claims Melton threatened him about talking to the federal grand jury two days after the mayor was indicted. Watts said FBI agents interviewed him about a year ago about "the mayor’s alleged criminal activities."
Watts claimed he was directing traffic on July 11 when Melton allegedly approached him and complained, "I heard you have been running your damn mouth."
According to the notice, Watts said Melton said, "I got you later, and you’ll learn that."
The week after the alleged threat, Watts said he was transferred from his job as a downtown Segway officer to working the overnight shift in west Jackson.
Do I guess correctly that “West Jackson” = “high crime area”? (Yeah yeah, I know — but I mean “even higher than others”?)
Anyhow, whatever that kerfuffle last week involving Katherine Pugh, it isn’t in evidence in Joyner’s report that “Police Chief Malcolm McMillin said Tuesday that he made the decision to transfer Watts and that Melton did not request the transfer.”
No word of who, if anyone, is representing Officer Watts.
West Jackson is certainly the worst crime area around town…it’s where Mayor’s can destroy houses at will.
Just when we thought things in Jackson could not get any worse:
