ALAMOGORDO — The head of the Republican Women of Otero County refused to resign after calling Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama a “Muslim socialist” — so the rest of the group’s board quit, the county GOP chairwoman says.
Marcia Stirman, a 56-year-old interior decorator, wrote a letter published Oct. 21 in the Alamogordo Daily News in which she wrote, “I believe Muslims are our enemies.”
The letter prompted a quick response from the New Mexico Republican Party, which said she does not speak for the party and that her comments do not reflect its values and beliefs.
The executive board of the Otero County Republican Party and the Republican Women of Otero County asked Stirman to resign last week, county GOP Chairwoman Sassy Tinling said.
Stirman refused, and Tinling said the rest of the board of the Republican Women’s group immediately gave their resignations to Stirman.
Tinling also said the county party’s executive committee “has chosen to disassociate itself from the RWOOC as it exists today” and that the Otero County GOP will no longer recognize Stirman’s position on its board. …
Mighty slow on the uptake, that one . . .
Raise a glass to these women for doing the right thing!
Yeah then you have the California GOP filing an FEC complaint that Obama used campaign funds to visit his dying grandmother. AT 1:30 TODAY! As usual in this election, great timing GOP. Seriously, are you guys trying to lose?
Forget the politics of mean, the dumbing down, the failure to vet candidates, I think the biggest reason I can no longer call myself a Republican is their complete ineptitude just kills me. Its almost like they are running away from power for the next four years knowing full well how tough they will be.
As a lefty I Thank the women of the GOP for standing up and doing the right thing.
