Huh, Rick Davis?!?!?!?!?

A lot of you foloers are clearly much more steeped in ACORN lore than I (who feel sort of late-to-the-scene, never having heard much about it until lately). But anyhow, I guess the right-wingers are quite hopped-up about it, and today Josh Marshall gave a meaty explication of how the GOP is setting up ACORN as their latest, greatest cover story for losing this election. In an update to his post, Josh shows a video with this from a TPM reader:

McCain’s team has been pushing it on reporters today and just put out one of the most obvious web videos yet.

I say “obvious” because the implication of the 24/7 Fox coverage is made blatant. It’s transference. It’s saying to white voters, “we know you’re angry about the economy. Don’t blame Wall Street. Blame the n—–s.”

McCain’s going to lose, and he knows it. This is a 90-second ad aimed at the base who are watching Fox News. But he’s setting up a large proportion (maybe the majority) of the GOP base to believe that scary blacks stole the election for Barack Obama. He’s stoking race hatred. He is scum, and if in 10 years his name isn’t synonymous with Lester Maddox and George Wallace [then] historians won’t have done their job.

Now in this connection . . . imagine my surprise next to read from Ben Smith that Rick Davis is claiming — as a positive — that McCain “blew up” the first bailout deal (you know, the one they’ve heretofore been claiming Obama blew up?). Heck-far yeah, he says, McCain “suspended” his campaign (nudge nudge wink wink), clanked into Washington, and Did the Right Thang

“in the middle of the greatest disaster in our financial system that we’d had in our lifetime, that the Democrats in the United States Senate would actually link payments to ACORN in the bailout package that they promoted — prior to Sen. McCain coming to town and actually blowing that package up. So we can actually say that in addition to saving taxpayers millions of dollars, and we’re very happy that no more taxpayer dollars were added to the pile of money going to ACORN.”

If they could keep even one of their stories straight, it sure would be a dang help.

I read the original bill – all 110 pages of it. There was nothing in it ever about money going to ACORN by name or description. It’s all a lie and has been from the start.
