“I am surprised that … he wasn’t willing to say it to my face”

October 9th, 2008 @ 2:38 pm - by lotus · 8 Comments

Yesterday in Indianapolis, Charlie Gibson interviewed Barack Obama, focusing primarily on the global market meltdown, people’s fear and distrust in government and other institutions, and how the U.S. president’s leadership has and could affect all that. Then it got even more interesting.

When Gibson turned the conversation to McCain-Palin’s attacks of the last several days and the fact that John McCain chose not to bring them into the second debate, Obama answered, “Well, I am surprised that, you know, we’ve been seeing some pretty over-the-top attacks coming out of the McCain campaign over the last several days that he wasn’t willing to say it to my face. But I guess we’ve got one last debate. So presumably, if he ends up feeling that — that he needs to, he will raise it during the debate. …”

In this 7-minute clip from the interview, the questioning on McCain starts at 4:42; ABC’s “excerpted transcript” of the full exchange is here.

P.S. Josh Marshall wrote at length this morning about “the cowardice issue” that came into new focus in the Gibson interview. Some McCain-Palin supporters in Ohio have no such reticence.

Is this designed to have McCain stoke out (or lose it in some way) in the next debate? I’m not entirely kidding…

Neither is my Magic 8-Ball, which says “Yes.”

I think it is, and that it’s going to work, no matter what.

Make that me three. In MO (I think) Joe Biden questioned why McCain would not say all of this to Obama’s face at the debate and claimed, “In the neighborhood I come from, if you have something to say to somebody, you look ‘em in the eye and say it!” That’s our Joe.

It would seem as if there is NO WAY McCain can’t bring this up in the debate next week….and Obama has plenty of time to be ready on this, as well as many “associations” McCain may rather the voters not be reminded about.

  6. ThirdSouth says:

Senator Obama has skillfully put Senator McCain in a box on this one, damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.

Hey GG…up there in the show me state do you also support a fake and liar like Biden?

{Towards the end of last night’s Joe Biden/Sarah Palin debate, Joe Biden said this: “All you have to do is to go down Union Street with me in Wilmington and go to Katie’s restaurant…”

It caughtme off guard, as well as our food guru Patty Talorico.

She investigated a bit and realized Biden was referring to the long-closed Katie’s Italian restaurant, which is actually two blocks away from Union Street.

The establishment is now a Wings to Go.

Talorico’s blog post has been picked up by the John McCain campaign, along with The National Review, New York magazine and others.

    For a guy running as an in-touch-with-the-real-people candidate, it’s hard to believe he not only referenced a restaurant that has been closed for nearly 20 years, but also got the location wrong!..}

Why would you want to support any of these clowns. Throw them all out.

Big deal, iag. I save my outrage for more significant matters. Want me to name them or do you catch my drift? BTW, I’m not from the Show Me state-I hail from the Volunteer state.
