MS Senate race: Clarion Ledger editorial board meeting with Wicker and Musgrove

October 7th, 2008 @ 9:44 am - by NMC · 3 Comments

The Clarion-Ledger live-streamed their editorial board meetings with Wicker and Musgrove on the Senate race. I found the video of Wicker here but could not see Musgrove’s among the videos.  David Hampton blogged about the meeting with Musgrove and Wicker and the debate:

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial Board met with Senate candidates Ronnie Musgrove and Roger Wicker on Monday. We actually had a calm discussion of the issues with them, something most voters are not seeing. As I have said, former Gov. Musgrove, a Democrat, and interim Sen. Wicker are both decent, smart, good guys who have served their state well. It is a shame that the race has digressed into a series of mean, meaningless, personal attack-ads.

Their debate Friday night at Mississippi College, unfortunately, did not provide a lot of new information for voters. The format  was flawed with too many questioners and too short time for responses. They both lapsed into their attacks and talking points. And, whoever thought anybody would watch a Senate debate on a Friday night football night doesn’t know much about football or politics. I can gurantee you most of Musgrove’s home county of Panola was not thinking about politics with South Panola on the field.

We live streamed our editorial board on the Web site, which was a new experience for the ed board. I wish we had had more time for questions, but we covered most of the basics. It will be posted if you want to check it out. Our endorsement in this race will be tough one. We have endorsed both of them in the past in all of their races.

You could tell the attack-driven campaigns were bothering them, too. They should do something about that. It does not serve either of them or the voters as they prepare to make this important decision.

They endorsed old “Rubberstamp” Roger? I’d be ashamed to admit it. If anyone knows of any other Representative who voted with Bush more than Roger Wicker did, I’d love to know who it was.

What would one expect from the state’s leading hackery C-L, MSPol?
