We’ve been tightly focused on November 4, but November 14 — Jackson mayor Frank Melton’s federal trial date — also approacheth, so here’s a rundown of recent developments:
- Mail carriers throughout the 45-county Southern District of Mississippi will be delivering to potential jurors mid next week a 21-item questionnnaire.
- Melton’s former bodyguard Marcus Wright wants to subpoena WLBT’s videotape of the raid on a duplex that accounts for this case.
- Yesterday other-former-bodyguard Michael Recio’s attorney, Cynthia Stewart, filed a motion to separate his trial from Melton’s, claiming Melton and Wright would both testify for Recio if the trials are separate (if not, not). Wright’s lawyer, John Collette, is mulling the same move.
- Jackson’s City Council decides today whether it’ll pay Melton-Recio-Wright’s $155,000 attorney fees from the 2007 state trial.
There ya go — now that we’re up with the small-bore thugs of Jackson, back to the big leagues . . .
Which one’s going to turn on Frank?
