More bits and pieces from the debate. Here’s Hendrik Hertzberg’s reaction, which was that Obama was clearly the winner. He explains why, and passes along an interesting question: The McCain people had that advertisement Lotus linked (the one where it repeatedly quotes Obama agreeing with McCain) online during the debate! So exactly how did John McCain “approve this message?” Odd.
The daily tracking poll from Gallup is in, and I don’t know whether to call this a “first” or a “second.” For the first time, a candidate has held an 8 point lead two days in a row. For the first time, a candidate has held at 50 points to days in a row.
Finally, Ole Miss law student Roslyn Griffin got up bright and early Saturday morning to present Barack Obama with a plaque from the Ole Miss black law students. A picture of the presentation made the AP wire, and its linked below. She’s one of my firm’s law clerks, as was her dad, Jackson lawyer Charles Griffin, a couple of decades ago. This has been a really remarkable week for the college students of Ole Miss. They’ve been great hosts, and the ones working with the debate or the campaigns had the experience of a lifetime.

W00T for Roslyn! And what a great photo (instant family heirloom too, huh?).
that picture is very, very cute. I love it.
Way to go Roslyn. We taught you well at Tougaloo College on how to meet the important people. Keep up the great work in law school.
Picture is great.
