So says Heart to McCain-Palin:
“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.
Ooop.

UPDATE: Now the middle school’s mad at McCain too, for the same reason. Sheesh, does that campaign not have a legal department anywhere?
There’s a reason “PETTY politics” was coined… Legally, since the school is public, I wouldn’t think the McCain campaign would have had to have permission. However, we all doubt that’s what they wanted. Did he even talk about education? If he did I was snoozing… Just waiting for the poor geek who screwed this up to have a press conference. Doncha’ just luv prez politics as a spectator sport?
As to music choices: who picks? The funniest is Bill Clinton’s post-speech crowd pleaser “Addicted to Love,” but I remember either Poppy Bush or Dubya using “Born in the USA” (which is an ANTI-war anthem if you listen to the lyrics) for some jingoistic appeal. Maybe the parties need to appoint Music Czars, huh?
