Woohoo, Monday morning! – UPDATED

August 11th, 2008 @ 6:40 am - by lotus · 25 Comments

Open-thread time, so I can take this poisonous headache back to bed and not further inflict my grumps on youse. At some point today, FedEx is to show up with my iMac, and ain’t it lucky that NMC’s come back to life just in time? I was thinking we might need an open-thread day or two while I learn the new platform, but maybe not.

Well, let’s see, what might y’all be fixing to talk about? The sidebar is full of Georgia news; Ben Cole sends in a link full of Jamie McIntyre’s courtroom-at-Gitmo impressions; Kevin Frye has a new post full of the Lafayette Courthouse abomination; Isaac Hayes’ death deprives us of a voice full of sorghum molasses — and my inbox is full of complaints from innocent commenters stuck in the new anti-spam gizmo. Apologies to all, including Cujo and Rodney, the latest to report this.

It seems to be caused by a conflict between the WP-SpamFree “plug-in” and some other one we use, but so far we haven’t pinned down which. Any of you IT types with advice? Anyhow, if you get an error message that says you need to enable JavaScript and cookies that you’ve already got enabled, please just ignore it and keep submitting your comment. Eventually they go through, and eventually we’ll get this figured out and fixed. I sure hope so anyhow, because I really won’t like going back to our previous, even messier anti-spam “solution.”

In short: Good morning, folo, from lotus (who’s full of see-ya-later)!

UPDATE: ducky and afotl have found a helpful trick: If your comment gets waylaid, copy it, re-load the page, then paste the comment into the reloaded comment-box. This works when a re-submit on the original page doesn’t. Thanks, ducky and afotl!

Just a warning: you’re gonna love your iMac. Too bad ALL personal computers aren’t Apple products. Enjoy.

Questions: Has it been confirmed that the box of documents Dickie Scruggs claimed to have picked up in Bloomington, Indiana, from a mysterious State Farm “insider,” was empty? If so, what was that all about? If not, has it been revealed what those documents were?

Just a few light comments this morn.

First, this past week, my wife cooked a side dish for me —– the Mississippi Squash Casserole, the recipe for which is included in the Flowahy Cookin’ section of this site, utilizing some fresh squash from my wife’s garden. Folks, this was really outstanding — a very good and different twist on squash from the norm — very light and fluffy, and flavorful. I highly recommend it.

On the music front, I attended the Sunflower River Blues and Gospel festival in Clarksdale, MS this past weekend —as I have every year now for almost 15 years. This is probably the purest “blues” festival out there —bar none. And it is certainly one of the most intimate due to the lively, but not over-crowded setting, which allows the attendees to have many chances to meet and talk to the performers (if you desire). There are great blues acts, both national and local, on the festival stages, as well as in the local bars which are all within walking distance of the festival grounds. As always, it was a great time. IF you ever wanted a chance to experience what the MS Delta Blues is all about, this festival is your ticket. It occurs every year in August. One note of interest: the good crowds this year appeared to be more local than usual, with fewer foreigners and long-distance travelers —- probably due to the high cost of transportation. When the gas prices start affecting the music festivals, by God its time to take some action!!! Oh yeah, one other thing —the price of admission to this festival is right —- its free (paid for by the sponsors).

PS. I tried to edit my post to add this suggestion, but the great computer in the sky wouldn’t lemme in. I invite you to consider getting an Apple “Time Capsule” for your iMac. The Time Capsule is an electronic Swiss army knife that maintains automatic backups of all your data whilst also serving as your system’s wireless router. The only wire you’ll have plugged into your iMac will be the power cord (assuming you got the wireless keyboard and mouse). Time Capsule will connect you wirelessly to your printer, scanner, and any other wireless gizmos you may have. I think it also closes all the commode lids, but don’t quote me on that.

RE: posting problems. Copying my comment and re-loading the page then pasting it into the reloaded comment box works for me. Doesn’t work if I just try to submit it on the original page.

Feel better Lotus. Wish I could send you this expensive surplus Zomig I got over here; don’t work for me, but it might for you.

  8. lotus says:

Thanks, ducky. It’s lightening up finally. I don’t have these nearly as often or as bad as I used to, but every now and then . . .

  9. a friend of the law says:

Ditto what duckweedpond stated. That is the procedure that I am using to post my comments.

  10. curious georgette says:

OK people, Hoover sauce – what’s the easiest way for me to get some if I’m in Jackson? I need it for a Labor Day quail hunt, so I can outshine my country relations.

Sorry about the headache, Lotus. My 12 year old is starting to get migraines, we think, so I have sympathy for your plight.

  11. lotus says:

I bleeve afotl has the phone number, ceegee 10. If he’ll email it to me, I’ll email it to you.

Oh, and my commiseration to your 12-year-old. Sure hope (she?) doesn’t have to wait for menopause to get major relief, but that’s how it worked out for me.

  12. Sailor says:

Have a good friend who suffers terribly from migraines. She has been reading about a botox therapy, altho’ it’s not FDA approved for that application yet. Have you heard about it, lotus?

  13. lotus says:

I think maybe I have, Sailor. Didn’t follow up on it, though, because mine have eased off so much (frequency and severity both).

  14. GlitterGirl says:

ceegee, I know he (Hoover Lee) sells it in Louise…try this email address: HooverSauce@aol.com

    WOOHOO, my

  16. Its All Good says:

Have a good friend who suffers terribly from migraines. She has been using grapes soaked in gin overnight and has been helped tremendously. Nasty taste but if you are hurting bad enough it may be worth a try.

  17. curious georgette says:

Thanks GG, I’ll email him about it.

Grapes in gin?? I bet DHS would be on me if I tried it with a 12 year old . . .

  18. lotus says:

Dang, this place is purty on a Mac. (Better be — I can’t find anywhere else yet, heh.)

  19. DeltaNative says:

    You up and running?

  20. lotus says:

Wull, I’m up — “running” would be a bit of a stretch. You wouldn’t believe this little, flat, practically silent keyboard. Man, this rig is elegant.

  21. DeltaNative says:

Well, you’re commenting and surfing, so sounds like you’re doing fine. No sweat.

I live in Hinds County and Mr. Lee delivered the sauce to me in a parking lot not 3 miles from my house. He told me he comes to Jackson pretty frequently.
