Saw it on the TV website. Not his finest moment. It’ll be interesting to see how the Musgrove campaign plays this, tho’. Do you pounce on Wicker for not knowing what’s in the ad he “approves” and risk drawing more attention to your morals, OR do you just ignore it? I think it’s interesting that Musgrove’s campaign manager assumes the references are to RM’s personal life, while others assume the moral ref. is to the Meat Processing deal. Hmmmm…

  2. op99 says:

Not knowing enough about Musgrove’s ethics or morals to comment on his worthiness for office, I can say for sure from that interview that Wicker is not sharp enough to hold office.

Sailor, “others” have been assuming for quite some time that, any day now, we’re going to see how dirty Musgrove was with regard to the Beef Plant, and yet there continues to be not a stitch of evidence as to any wrong doing on Musgrove’s part.

Believe me, by now, if they’d been able to dig up anything at all to tar Musgrove (and they have tried), it would be known far and wide. That it isn’t, and they haven’t, won’t quiet the whispers and rumors and all around anti-Musgrove sentiment on the right, though.

MC, I agree with you. I don’t think anything’s coming out of the beef plant screw up that will hurt him. I think the ad is purposefully vague re: “ethics.” I’m just wondering how the campaign responds (or doesn’t) to Wicker’s gaffe. any ideas?

  5. MC says:

Agreed. It doesn’t matter what sort of ethical improprieties the ad brings to mind, just that it raises the issue. That’s the whole point. The fact that Wicker can’t speak to what those may be shows it to be just a smear put out there for just that purpose.

As to how the Musgrove campaign will respond, I’d venture a guess that they’d like as many Mississippians as possible to see this clip.

Roger Wicker is all there; but this is all there is.

somslawyer// You are sooo funny, and so truthful.

MC @ 3, you said “Believe me, by now, if they’d been able to dig up anything at all to tar Musgrove (and they have tried), it would be known far and wide.”

You ever heard of “keeping your powder dry” ???

It’s not even Labor Day yet. Ronnie’s been involved in many shady dealings. Who knows, maybe Roger will play nice and not use any of the dirt, but there is some significant dirt to use (and dirt which has absolutely nothing to do with the beef plant or anything which happened while Ronnie was governor).

Every election anymore — from school board to Presidency — is marked with negative ads because election after election seems to indicate that negative ads work.

I’d imagine Wicker, or groups over which Wicker has no control, will start blasting away at Ronnie in mid-October. Until then, to say that there’s nothing available which could be used against Ronnie is both naieve and uninformed.
