Tupelo Journal reports Zach Scruggs wants to go to Arkansas

July 22nd, 2008 @ 11:38 pm - by NMC · 5 Comments

The Daily Journal has reported that Zach Scruggs has changed his mind about where he wants to serve his time. It seems that his father is not eligible for Pensacola because he’s a pilot, and so is being sent to Forrest City, Arkansas (along with Sid Backstrom, at least if his request is honored). Zach wants to go there too, to avoid the strain on his family.

Here’s the DJ story. Here’s Zach Scruggs.

    Is it really his choice?

The judge can make a recommendation that will often be taken into consideration. Judge Biggers already did that on Zach’s request. Who knows what he’ll think about this effort to “rethink” it.

NMC, has Zach requested a delay in reporting to prison until after his child is born in October? Also, do you think it means anything that the linked motion doesn’t have Mike Moore’s name on it?

The policy of not allowing pilots to serve at this facility appears to be a sound one — how many sweet potatoes would you have to offer the naval commander to let you fly right out of there?

MSLawyer– there’s been no request for a delay other than what was spoken at the sentencing. I was slightly surprised Moore wasn’t on it (and local rules ordinarily would require it as I understand them)
