Okay, Zuckerman, take a number . . .

July 19th, 2008 @ 4:18 pm - by lotus · 15 Comments

Jeez, Dickie Scruggs may actually need a break at “camp” (Pensacola’s or otherwise) by the time he reports to prison on August 4.

Remember that NMC posted about Dickie suing Zuckerman Spaeder law firm (which was about to sue him), disputing the Rigsbys’ attorney fees? Now Anita Lee reports that Zuckerman’s countersuit has generated a subpoena for Dickie’s deposition on July 28. (Recall that he’s set for depo in McIntosh on Monday.)

Anita’s readers learn that Zuckerman wants $1.4 million in fees and expenses, which it says doesn’t count the $400,000 already paid by other SKG members.

Zuckerman says the money is owed for its work on Renfroe v. Rigsby. Scruggs says he paid Zuckerman’s invoices while he was involved with the cases. He wants a judge to find he personally owes Zuckerman nothing and the Scruggs Law Firm should be charged only its share of fees agreed to with other members of SKG.

Such a familiar tune they’re dancing to, eh?

Wow, my first “h/t.” I’d like to take this opportunity to thank….what? Why are you playing the “wrap it up” music already?

Now if I only knew what “h/t” meant…hotty toddy?…handsome tiger?…handy tickler? Lil help, Lotus?

  2. NMC says:

  3. NMC says:

Figurative in this case, since I don’t actually wear hatz.

  7. Phantom says:

Speaking of which, NMC @ 3,

Any place that serves up good ones in Oxford?

(Sorry, Lotus, maybe this should’ve waited until Sunday Dinnah)

  8. lotus says:

Thass okay, Phantom, I think we got plenty on the menu tamale (if NMC has time to do what he’s threatened, that is).

  9. NMC says:

unfortunately, the brief availability of “delta tamales” in Oxford ended when Does closed its doors last year. I’m hearing rumors of a related reopening and will post when I hear. I think the closest available are in Clarksdale.

  10. Observer says:

NMC @ 11, you surprise me.

You can still get “Delta tamales” in Oxford, just not in a restaurant.

John Sherman’s Snow Biz snow-cone stand sells tamales from Charlie Sherman’s restaurant in Greenville. People in the know have always known that Sherman’s tamales, which are wrapped in corn shucks, are superior to Doe’s tamales. Doe’s tamales are very, very good. Sherman’s tamales are BETTER!

Pick up a dozen, go home, make a salad, and you have a meal fit for a KING!

  11. ThirdSouth says:

Forgive me for shifting gears from tamales, but is there any chance, in anyone’s opinion, now that this Zuckerman fee dispute case appears to be headed for the “whole nine yards,” that the Twisted Sisters might come clean and admit they were paid by Dickie to make up all the 20/20 horseshit, and that they were promised they would be considered tobacco-like “insiders” and never have to take an oath, and and attempt sworn testimony backing it up?” Is there a chance Ma Lobrano might be called to testify in the Zuckerman case?

  12. MORE COWBELL says:

3rd: any chance mona lisa was a man?

  13. lotus says:

    Hee, Cowbell, good one.
