The Air Force’s senior civilian officer and its highest-ranking general are expected to be asked to resign following an inquiry into the mishandling of nuclear weapons parts and a series of other embarrassments, Pentagon officials said Thursday.
The Air Force secretary, Michael W. Wynne, and the service’s chief of staff, Gen. T. Michael Moseley, had come under pressure following an official inquiry to determine how four high-tech electrical nosecone fuses for Minuteman nuclear warheads were sent to Taiwan in place of helicopter batteries. The mistake was discovered in March — a year and a half after the erroneous shipment.
Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has made accountability a theme of his administration. He previously moved quickly to fire senior Army officials, both civilian and military, after disclosures of shoddy conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the service’s premier medical facility for wounded soldiers. …
Now if his boss would just notice how things should be done!!
Do you mean the boss that appointed him to carry out the policy of accountability for said boss!?!
Accountability ” As we sit here, The Independent, a U K paper is reporting Bush is trying to get a secret pact pushed through with Iraq to put 50 military bases there, which would mean, from here to eternty, we would be in Iraq. What is this man thinking, Accountability”
Amen, mag. A friend of mine says:
“Gates – hmmmm. Is he just being responsible, or is he weeding out some of the pro-Bomb Iran crew (which these guys have reportedly been) and getting some payback for Fallon or what? He does at least seem to be trying to avert calamity and require some minor amount of accountability.”
I guess that the “Indy” is concerned that since U.S. forces have “occupied” the United Kingdom for almost 60 years there is no telling how long we will hang out in Iraq. My guess is that since many a doomsayer predicts that we will run out of oil in less than 50 years, the Iraqies will not have to kiss the ring of their overlord for nearly as long as the Brits.
Keep that koolaid flowin’.
We were in Saudi Arabia since the early 60′s, Sept. 11th happened and we were asked to move our U.S.bases out, where to?
Sec. of Defense Rumsfeld and the Defense Dept. knew the next step was Iraq, if only we were told the truth, it was military strategy, look at a map, Iraq is smack dab in the middle of the Middle East, buffering Iran and Afghanistan.
Yes, we will be in Iraq a long time, due to all the money spent so far on bases and the embassy.
