And in further news . . . Johnnie Patton has drawn an opponent — Dr. Ollye Shirley, a civil rights activist with her husband, Aaron Shirley. She’s pulled together a pretty good network, I hear. The election is Saturday. Here’s Patton’s letter to MS Dems:

    Dear Fellow Democrats

This email is to remind you of the state convention upcoming at Jackson State this weekend and I AM running for National Committee Woman. I ask you for your vote and support for my re-election.

I have just returned from New Mexico for a Federation of Democratic Women’s Convention and I will have full report upcoming in a few days, but I wanted to let all know that I am running for re-election. My committment is there for the party, for you and Mississippi and I plan to continue in that effort.

Oh, my treasurer’s report for the Federation was commended as one of the best treasurer’s reports for the Federation. I was happy to received that commendation from the President and that was a wonderful reflection of the Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women.

I look forward to seeing all of you and the new executive board members and the delegates to the National Convention. We will have fun and a great convention.

    Thanks
    Johnnie Patton
    National Committee-Woman

Now’s your chance to do something effective in the way of improvement, MS Dems.
