Seems there’s another rightwing email campaign out there (FAR out there) trying to use Barack Obama’s books as proof of racism on his part. But Snopes.com has the drop on it, patiently taking each misrepresentation in turn and showing the actual passage — where one exists, which isn’t always — and how it differs from the distorted version in the email. Some of the email’s “quotations” are taken completely out of context, some are reworded, and some are just plain made-up.
I’d copy a few examples but can’t get the Snopes page to play along, so instead I just refer you to it directly.

And since when did I become the “right wing” poster child here? Some (many who know me) might disagree with that assessment. Can we not disagree here from time to time without resorting to the gross generalizations and demonizing? If not, then perhaps I don’t belong here at all.

Sorry to sound so defensive, but its been a long, stressful week for me, and I don’t even know what this Obama email deal is all about —haven’t seen it, and don’t read these types of things, even if they somehow made it through all the spam killers and other filters my computer-guru wife has set up for me at home, and which exist at work. The ultimate home for most of this type stuff that makes it through is the deleted garbage dump, unread. And I do appreciate your response.

AFOTL…as one who tends to agree with you more than disagree…DON’T LEAVE lest I inherit the “right wing poster child” mantle (LOL) …and I’m a middle of the roader politically so it won’t fit me, just like it doesn’t fit you at times. Moreover, you are much more articulate (accurate?) in your presentation than I. And even more to the point, the “honest opposition” is IMO, always a necessary component on EVERY point. Just to keep everyone honest in the pursuit of truth and accuracy of the facts: Something the most well-intentioned of us can occasionally forget.
