Supreme Musical Chairs: Further Crawfishing by Justice Easley

May 14th, 2008 @ 4:52 pm - by NMC · 9 Comments

This just in, a press release from the Secretary of State’s Elections Division press person:

Judicial Candidate Drops Out of Race

Jackson, MS –On Wednesday, May 14, 2008, Charles "Chuck’ Easley hand-delivered a letter to Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann withdrawing immediately from the Mississippi Supreme Court Election, District Three, Place One against Gene Barton and Ann Hannaford Lamar.

I guess this means he is still going to run against David Chandler?

So Sailor had it right, huh? Good, I like the sound of Chandler’s chances. What an unjudicious sashay Easley made of this.

  2. Sailor says:

By all accounts Chandler is a class act. Easley never has been and has really shown it. I really think he’s gone around the bend, mentally.

I spoke with Gene Barton earlier today and he indicated to me that this was precisely what Justice Easley would do. So, I am not surprised at this news and will let his actions speak for themselves.

I was later made aware of some injudicious remarks made by Justice Easley to a reporter with the Commercial Dispatch regarding David Chandler and his entry into the Supreme Court race. I’ll await that story before remarking any further.

Oh shoot, Crispin, remark unto us!

  5. Anderson says:

Well, chalk one up for Sid Salter!

  6. confounded says:

would’ve been nice if easley had done such an about face in the prudential v. stewart case.

  7. somslawyer says:

So, now he’s requested that his name be withdrawn from both races. Can he change his mind a third time and opt back in for his current seat? Since it’s past the qualifying date, I would argue that he can’t.

Justice Easley “re-qualified” for his post Friday before the qualifying deadline. That switch in time was after he withdrew from his post Thursday and qualified for Justice Lamar’s post the same day. Today he withdrew from Lamar’s Post. Got it? Clear as mud? Thought so . . . .

Writer John Mott Coffey with the Commercial Dispatch posted this story, just before noon today, regarding Justice Easley’s maneuvers:

The remarks attributed to Justice Easley speak for themselves.
