Various state papers’ coverage of Haley Barbour’s nominating Circuit Judge Stephen Simpson as Mississippi’s next Public Safety Commissioner:
Clarion-Ledger (Jimmie Gates):
Improving the state Crime Lab and naming a medical examiner will be priorities for Stephen Simpson if he’s confirmed as the next commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. …
Meridian Star (Brian Livingston):
After six weeks filled with speculations and rumors surrounding Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie being on the short list of candidates for the Department of Public Safety commissioner, the department can now rest easy. …
[Um, Brian . . . ]
Sun Herald (Michael Newsom)
South Mississippi Circuit Judge Stephen B. “Steve” Simpson has been nominated to be commissioner of the state Department of Public Safety, Gov. Haley Barbour announced Friday at a press conference. …
Well, whatever else may qualify him for the position, I’ll just note these photos indicating that Simpson stands to become the largest person in state gummint . . . not sure whether, from my standpoint (5′2″), I could see his summit.
you standin at approximately the same 5′2″ that Simpson’s picture partner does lotus.
No kidding, ducky? Haley’s that squat (AND outweighs me 2-3 to 1)? Dang.
Simpson a towering figure…I’d guess at least 6′6″. Haley’s probly about 5′9″.
Really?? I’ve only seen him in person once when he zipped through a restaurant where I was eating. I remember thinking he looked very very short. Course I was sitting down.
Speaking of food that strawberry sherbet over there to the right from Pastry Studio looks delightful.
Click on that and find out how easy it is to make, ducky. Then pair it with the pecan-praline goodies from her last post if ya wanna risk dying-and-going-to-Hebn.
I’d say 5′ 9″ is about right for Haley. Could possibly be 5′ 8″.
Does anyone else have a problem with a judge saying this?
“I feel like I have always been in law enforcement,” Simpson said.
I could have sworn I learned in law school that judges were to be impartial.
Yes ole miss, they are to be impartial but they are part of law enforcement.
I’m still trying to figure out why he’d want the job. He’s pretty safe on the bench down here for life, last time he ran w/ no opposition. The salaries are close and the commute is going to be rough on his family. I hope he’s got some idealistic reasons for taking what most likely will be a three-year job. Anybody got any insight?
OMG!!!!! Just clicked on Pastry Studio for the first time. Those pictures make you want to lick the screen . . .
those pastry studio confections are beautiful. i’ve tried one of the recipes and it was yummy. I wonder if the chef takes the photos too.
Yepper, ducky, she does. (And cuisine and photography ain’t the half of her talents.)
