Also to be filed under Ripley’s Believe It or Not Today: The Clarion Ledger even has an article about the reinstated attorney

  2. lotus says:

    Got linky, MT?

  3. My Thoughts says:

I stinky at linky… sent it via email

  4. lotus says:

    ^ ^ ^ And I even got it, we’s on a ROLL! ^ ^ ^

  5. jim says:

    Great news! It’s about time.

  6. Keith Shelton says:

First, I want to thank all those anonymous souls (and a few not quite so anonymous any longer) out there who have equally earned their sheepdog badges. Jan, you are the top dog of all!!!

As to the comments re Justice Dickinson’s separate opinion, doesn’t anyone realize that the Bar DID do some extensive investigating? When else have you seen the Bar do a complete 180 about-face in its position on any attorney license or discipline issue? The fact is, the Bar DID do some considerable investigation; and they ultimately had to go with the only version of events supported by hard evidence (the docs and tape recordings), and solid third party testimony. The physical evidence was just as plain as the nose on your face. I never got angry with Adam or Jim or Gwen; I knew that, if they ever tired of trying to support all possible alternatives, they’d have to come to the conclusion that the evidence just flat-out contradicted my accusers claims and supported mine.

Other than these few comments, I do not intend to bask in the public eye. I do, however, want to say again how much I appreciated all the support that Jan’s readers showed. I paid a very handsome price indeed for answering my call to be a sheepdog. And too often I surely felt like James and I were the only voices crying in the wilderness; but it is a great feeling to know that there are many more out there who would aspire to the call to protect the weak and defend the defenseless, if only they could know of the need.

With the most humble of heart, I do thank the Lord and I do thank you all.

  7. lotus says:

Oh, how I’ve looked forward to saying this.

    Welcome to folo, Keith.

  8. Justsittinhere says:

    Mr. Shelton: congratulations!!!

  9. Justsittinhere says:

excuse me, I meant to say ATTORNEY SHELTON: Congratulations!!!!

  10. lotus says:

Keith, how did you get the word today, and what did that instant feel like? I can’t BELIEVE I wasn’t here to get you on the phone immediately, d’oh!

  11. my2cents says:

It is nice to see the underdog/little man win for the truth in the judiciary system of Hinds County and the state. Welcome back.

  12. somslawyer says:

Mr. Shelton, welcome back to this beleaguered brotherhood.

Apparently, Justice Dickinson did not appreciate the extent of the bar’s efforts. My comments were intended to point out that those efforts should have extended to investigating the actions of the other attorneys involved — Patton and Peters — when it became apparent that you were not the culpable party. That investigation still needs to be conducted.

  13. supergreg says:

My impression was that it was fairly clear, but not directly stated. Dickinson said more or less – Why did Patton and Peters escape any scrutiny from the Bar from beginning to the end of the process if this was such an extraordinary case that warranted a diversion from the normally tedious process for reinstatement. If they are the bad guys, why didn’t anyone get their version and see how they might try to spin it.

I think it was more sarcastic than literal.

That being said, I am glad that Mr. Shelton has rejoined the ranks and certainly sympathize with what can only be characterized an honest lawyer’s worst nightmare.

    Cheers!

  14. Keith Shelton says:

    To Jan – #10

An attorney friend sent me an email saying “WOW Dude!!! Congratulations”. Needless to say, I didn’t have a clue, but I sure had a suspicion. I just knew, however, that my suspicion couldn’t be reality because I had already checked yesterday. When I looked, though, there it was … bigger ‘n snuff!! (Yup, Mississippi born’d n raised!!).

  15. justsittinhere says:

Supergreg: i agree with you. Dickinson was saying, if these guys did all this wrong why aren’t you doing something about it? why didn’t you bring us the rest of the evidence so we can refer this out. We don’t know whether to refer this to the Commission and the Bar or to the Attorney General!!

  16. lotus says:

I just can’t get over their doing it today instead of yesterday, Keith. Maybe we’ll hear the story behind that someday some way, but boy was I stunned when I walked in tonight.

Someone had emailed just before I left the house, “Watch for hand downs at noon.” But your noon was my 1 o’clock, and I couldn’t hang around to see what was up. I figured “hand downs” must be an alternative way to talk about more indictments, or something. Lawd have mussy, I never dreamed it would be this!

jsh 15, seems to me the answer is ALL of the above! irate was right the first time he saw this story: it’s worse — more egregious — than anything Dickie Scruggs put a paw in. These bozos belong nowhere but Parchman, and that’s where I want to see them!

  17. MSlawyer says:

Congratulations, Mr. Shelton! Wishing you the very best –

    Lotus: Shelton Series, Part 6?

  19. My Thoughts says:

Lotus, I’ve been going back trying to find the very origins of the Jennings/Shelton story here at folo and how it came to you… was it via an email from someone?

  20. iratetoday says:

I just got goosebumps. This was utterly amazing. Glad to see you here Keith! They should name a courage award after you.

  21. Sailor says:

I’m so happy for you, Mr. Shelton! Not ready to make Justice Dickinson your savior, however. The Supremes have had this how long now? Think you might have been a pawn for a while?

  22. Why has Patton escaped any scrutiny from ANYONE to date? Why did the investigator for Judicial Performance flatly lie concerning his interviewing of two attorneys and what else did he lie about and for who? Who pulled Terry Grice’s strings or padded his wallet?

    Mr Brantley…Mr Kilgore…… Answer time.
I’ll assure you. They are going to come. Would it not be better if you did it of your own volition?

  23. lotus says:

jsh 18, ooo, right — got some updating to do on “The Shelton Series” page, don’t I? With pleasure, m’deah, and thanks for the reminder.

MT 19, you bet — an email with a helluva jaw-dropping story and many an attachment — which, as you can imagine, immediately put NMC and me on the floor. Then I tottered up and started writing . . .

    irate 20, high-five and (((HUG)))

Sailor 21, “a while”? Keith was a pawn for two weeks shy of ELEVEN YEARS. If you mean also a pawn to be traded for DeLaughter these last few weeks, that wouldn’t surprise me. We need to pay more-&-better attention to the MS Bar officials and Supremes, don’t we (hmm, will folo need a couple more out-of-state co-bloggers as firewalls for NMC and Jane’s MS Bar tickets)? LOL!

    Jane 22, you GO!

James 23, excellent questions. Answer time’s bearing down on many — let us not omit Breland Hilburn and, if I had my way, the Clarion-Ledger (or rather, the name it’s finally worn down to: merely the Ledger).

All: I have to admit, seeing “Jan” here is a little disorienting (“Who?“). You know, you read the “Jan” part of me on folo when it’s required — but aw, dat bloggy flowah, she have such good fun talkin’ like Pogo (and he Cajun cud’n)! An’ if she dereby drive some stuffy ol’ peeps gaga — heh, lagniappe.

  24. MrScrivener says:

    I agree with Justice Dickinson?!

Yes Virginia, there is a Refrigerium.

  25. Why didn’t the bar question Patton and Peters and why did little Breland’s dirty deed escape notice? I just wonder…….Do you? Maybe the “bar” didn’t want to question Patton or Pass Th Cash Peters and if so…why? Personally, I would have loved to have seen a depo on Patton. The man is a dullard. He’s about as quick on his intellectual feet as a walrus and it would have made for great fun reading to watch him peeled like an onion under oath. Oh well….soon enough, soon enough.

I thought it was a pretty crappy job Jerry Mitchel did covering Shelton’s reinstatement. Slanted it so it appeared that Shelton skated by on some technicality. From the “court records” of course. I wonder why he didn’t include some of the “court records” from the Tribunal investigation or Taylor’s depo?
What’s the term? Res ipsa loquitur?Oh well…it’s all coming out and shortly.Hide and watch, Buckwheat.
Again, many thanks to all the writers and readers and the many, many, many emails I have gotten!

I can’t comment once they are filed…but I have this rather large stack of bar complaints I need to get finished.I do think somebody at the bar is going to be VERY VERY busy this summer.

  26. Anderson says:

The Gates (not Mitchell) story on Shelton was indeed very poor.

I’m glad to see Shelton’s defense of the Bar’s handling of the matter. If Justice Dickinson wanted an oblique way to wonder out loud why Patton and Peters still have their law licenses, I think he should’ve found a way to do so that didn’t get certain readers (well, me, mostly) very, very angry at the Bar.

Still: IS there an investigation? What’s left to investigate? Where is the recommendation for disbarments or other discipline?

  27. iratetoday says:

It certainly begs the question as to what the f–k was going on with the Bar not questioning Patton nor Peters. Remember the Tribunal completed its finding back in July. Where was Judicial Performance during all of this?

  28. Nomiss says:

I recognize the outrage toward the Bar ‘s lack of action re Shelton, Patton, Peters. I think that’s the same outrage that’s coming from out of wind regarding the information she took to the general counsel and the Commission. IMO, all people serving on the Commission have some answering to do.

  29. Dixie K. Blankley says:

For several days I have been out of town, having a root canal and lots of other fun things, but I did see the story in the CL, so I offer my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Attorney Shelton. It is great to have a bit of good news.

  30. lotus says:

Sure is, Dixie, and I sho’ hope that includes a good long respite for yo’ po’ mouf finally!

  31. Nicole Matthews says:

I worked for Keith in his Byram office part time while I was going to school when all of this went down. My family and I have always respected and thought highly of Keith and his family. I was absolutely THRILLED to hear this news. I hope the miscreants responsible for all of this mess will go down quickly. What goes around most certainly comes around.

    God Bless…

  32. magnolia says:

Jane//I believe I read where he had an excellent job in Texas, and hopefully will be also able to see justice given to others that created so much injustice for him.

  33. NICOLE! FLINCHETTE LIVES!Are you still singing?

    Flinchette? Ha.
Of course I’m still singing! What in the world have you been getting into these days?
