Update: NMC from Folo is now blogging at nmisscommentor.com
I am going to make the only comment I will make on the Mississippi Beef plant cases while they are pending. A story ran on the AP wire, noting that Robert Moultrie, the CEO of the indicted company was also indicted. It quoted his lawyer:
“Robert Moultrie categorically denies all of the charges in the indictment, has entered his plea of absolutely not guilty today on all charges and looks forward to proving his complete innocence at trial,” his attorney, Tom Freeland of Oxford, said in a phone interview Tuesday.
The full story is worth reading and can be found here.
The reason I am not going to say anything else about the case while it is pending is that I am Tom Freeland, a lawyer in Oxford, Mississippi.
I am going to continue posting as NMC on the Scruggs cases, southern history, music, and food, and anything else that catches my eye, but not about this one particular case.
NMC, I think we all understand your situation in this matter. Keep up the good work!
Well, at least we won’t see any breathless motions about all the evil effects blog coverage has on the jury pool. Good luck in your defense!
What a twist!
707, DN 2 — and a very good point to boot!
707?????
Love It..You can’t make this stuff up, better than a Good OLE Sweet Tater Pie.
“707″ explained here, DN.
NMC, your silence on that case/issue is a given. Good luck to you on it and I appreciate your work and insight on Scruggs matter and all associated with it.
I’ll be damned! keep up the good work!
NMC, good luck as first blush you are going to need it. Prolly no need to tell you but get that retainer up front and make sure the check clears.
I must admit I am a little let down now that real names and therefore real people can be linked to the handles or nom de plumes or…
I sorta enjoyed the veil of anonymity. Ah well Santy, the Wizard ,the ether bunny, now Lotus and NMC.
George
You nailed him, DN. NMC was trying for a self-induced change of venue due to overwhelming blog coverage, though judging from the geographical distribution of folo’s readership (as revealed by the map overlays at Google Analytics) it will have to be to Antarctica "or Mars.
(And you thought y’all were just a passel of Mississippi lawyers)
what matters more? Your duy to your client or duty to US?????
Oops – scratch Antarctica:

On to Mars!
Well, NMC, you just confirmed my former suspicion that you had more experience in NoMiss than any of the Scruggs counsel. Sorry that we won’t have your expert commentary on this case, although we will benefit from it secondhand.
Well I’m kinda all bummed out now…no Santa, no Easter Bunny, no Tooth Fairy and no warning that everyone was being “outed” here on Folo today. There shoulda been some kind of blinking warning, something like “DON”T LOOK IF YOU WANT TO BELIEVE” attached so those of us that enjoyed the “not really knowing” aspect of who was behind the curtains…
Even though I suspicioned who it was (Oxford isn’t that big) and just as I suspicioned my daddy was playing Santa AND the Easter Bunny: it was FUN playing the charade. Now I don’t even want to rant on about the Beef Plant cuz to talk about it would be almost like ummmmm (gulp), talking about “family” members so I’ll do what other people (Khayat/Davis ) SHOULD have done about people they liked (Scruggs) post-conviction and keep quite about it.
Other than to say, good luck, NMC.
We’s sorry, Razor (and Jawge), but we’d both been itching to do this for some time now, and today dawned the right day for it. That Jane agreed to jump in on short notice (something else we’d been hankering to make happen) just made it better.
I’m wo’ out but happy tonight.
Jane:
First, Tom Rankin is in N.Carolina now. I was talking about bbq in the backyard in Oxford. I had pictures to post but it would blow out the server and I’ve not been able to reduce their size yet. It was a whole hog roast in my back yard.
Someone up there mentioned the bbq at the RebelBarn. Their barbecue sundae was a brilliant idea but there’s a tension between food poisoning and edibility (Bette Davis BBQ on the Tallahatchie River north of Oxford exemplifies that tension) that Rebel Barn began to hit the bad side of, and so I quit going there. In any event, they never hit the level of, say Big Bob Gibson in N. Alabama or Paynes in Memphis.
Thank you for now confirming that you weren’t talking about Dreamland and Rendevouz when you said N AL and Mfs… correct? I was going to be disappointed
North Alabama is Big Bob Gibson and Memphis is Paynes and Cozy Corner as far as I’m concerned, My Thoughts
WHY HAS NO ONE MENTIONED THE FACT THAT SCRUGGS WORKED OUT AN INSURANCE SETTLEMENT FOR U.S.DISTRICT COURT JUDGE LOUIS GUIROLA A MOORE/SCRUGGS/LOTT APPOINTEE.IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO KNOW WHY THIS FILE IS SEALED.I BET HE GOT 100 PERCENT OF HIS WIND POLICY WHILE EVERY ONE KNOWS HIS HOME IN LONGBEACH MS. WAS WASHED AWAY.NO FLOOD INSURANCE.HOW CAN THIS FILE BE UNSEALED.
Welcome to folo, brewski, but would you mind not hollering at us in uppercase, please?
