Great news in the two innocence cases we’ve talked about in the last week. The Judge in Noxubee County dropped the charges against Kennedy Brewer (who had been on death row) and released Leon Brooks (who was serving a life sentence) on bond. Bond for capital charges is essentially unheard of– that is a strong signal from the judge where the case is going– dismissal, the obvious just result.
This is great work for both the national Innocence Project and the local one, as we’ve discussed before.
