Meanwhile, in Telluride . . .

February 14th, 2008 @ 7:13 pm - by lotus · 5 Comments

Hat-tip to Kycol for letting me know about an interesting story in the Telluride (CO) Watch, headlined Blues from Booneville, about Joey Langston’s attempt to sell his ski-vacation chalet. Noting that the $8.9 million Colorado pile is part of a $14 million collection of assets (including, of course, Air Langston) that Joey has up for sale, the Watch‘s reporter observes:

Langston’s guilty plea, states [a Jerry Mitchell] article, arose from his involvement in one of [Dickie] Scruggs’s many fee disputes with fellow lawyers. The asbestos fee scandal will apparently result in Langston testifying that he worked with both Scruggs and son Zach in an attempt to improperly influence Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter, who issued rulings favorable to Scruggs in the case.

Also according to the article, Judge DeLaughter has denied any impropriety, so there’s one potential buyer right there.

Last year, a $4.6-million Gray Head home and land parcel owned by Enron principal Ken Rice, who is now serving a 27-month sentence in federal prison for securities fraud, was seized by U.S. marshals and put on the auction block.

Now, while it may indeed be that case that head-for-the-hills sounds like a plan to Bobby DeLaughter right about now, I just have my doubts that Peaks Real Estate Sotheby’s International Realty counts him a good prospective buyer for Joey. Somehow.

Folks every morning when we get up in the Northern part of the State , The Tennessee River just a throw from where I park at night, it is 17 to 24 degree’s..Now that will make you won’t to layer up..Never ever would I wear my long fox coat because no one else had one and they just might think I was not one of them…The Northern part of Mississippi is sparsely populated and a long fox coat would stand out like a JET AIRPLANE. Now most people with money like General Hood leaves their Cady under the carport and drives their pickup truck, thats like I’m like you, Not Joey he acted as if he had won the lottery and hung black velvet pictures of Elvis in the library. Is this his 15 minutes of fame…..One has to wonder just what made him do it.

Langston’s plea agreement called for no forfeitures but I imagine he is circling the wagons for possible civil suits. Has anyone heard any news from the Grand Jury in Oxford?

Roger that on possible civil litigation, watching closely. I would imagine that Bobs Wilson will want to be made whole in the matter of Wilson v. Scruggs.
