Okay, lotus here, worrying about all my tornado-run-over buddies in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Would y’all please each just say “Okay here” or whatever? I hear second-hand (thanks, nowdy!) that NMC came through fine but will fret until I hear from/about each of y’all.
You okay there in the Delta, Oxpatch, the red-clay hills, Jackson, elsewhere? Got a wild story to tell?
May all our loved ones and their loved ones be safe!
lotus
I’m still up although “Miss Judy Moon didn say nuttin bout no tornado” you just can’t be too careful when you hear a storm is coming up.
I am OK here in the Tupelo area.
Whew, glad to hear it, jim!
Still kicking as well.
Was pretty bad in Oxford. We had no one die but lost some homes and a few businesses. Just checking now. Me and mines were OK but we had to do the hallway duck for a few.
Scruggs will have to wait today. I got windier fish to fry this morning.
Be careful hopping around on that debris, Alyssa! (Love, Mom.)
lotus the storm liked my boat top more than I did
HAIL yes in Booneville
My two uncles and aunt lost their house in Abbeville ()just north of Oxford) last night and had to go to the hospital with minor cuts and bruises and cracked ribs.
The RED CLAY HILLS with The Big Bear Creek is fine…Thanks for caring..
I’m fine. Was a very, very dramatic storm.
Morning, still alive in North Ms, had some damage but no injuries.
Sorry to hear that, irate. Thank goodness they didn’t lose their lives!!
I guess I’ll get to see how good my insurance company is… and it isn’t State Farm.
bellesouth, should I put up a post to use as the location for your liveblogging comments?
NMC, I just did.
Jeepers, irate — a speedy recovery to them. I’m so sorry to hear this.
No twisters in the Bold New City.
Goody, Gardenia. Which City be Bold and New?
Twas a stormy night on the range, but all is fine. I’m so happy that I had previously decided to postphone yesterday’s appointment in Memphis.
Former Supreme Court Justice Chuck McRae was a guest on the Paul Gallo show this morning. It may be just me, but his demeanor seemed much more subdued than I can ever remember. It’s just that he’s not really the subdued kind of personality, but he seemed so today on radio.
When Gallo asked if McRae was surprised at the indictments of any of these people, McRae answered that he was not surprised about Scruggs.
I’m sorry that I missed most of the show. I think I recall that McRae had major Gulf coast financial and political backing from the G. coast powers in his elections.
Hmm…very interesting That McRae would say that considering he was so pro plaintiff.
Yes, I found that comment interesting also.
It was a slogan coined by the Johnson administration (preceded Melton as Mayor) to puff the city of Jackson. It is used locally with heavy irony. The more common reference is to “Jacktown,” as in local conservative black radio host Kim Wade’s regular advice to his listeners to “stay strapped down (i.e., armed) in Jacktown.”
Ahoy, lotus! All is well in Jackson, the Bold New City (a risable marketing handle from the late 1980s, I believe). I much preferred the city when it was Shy and Old.
I’ve been wondering what Chuck McRae is making of all this lately, and what advice he might be offering the Langstons. I know it’s been mentioned here before, but just as quick reiteration for those not in the know, McRae’s daughter Rebecca is married to Shane Langston, Joey’s brother.
In case Jane has not adequately informed you, we have a crime problem here. Former Mayor Johnson’s police chief attributed it to a matter of exagerated “perceptions.” So far, no perceptions have been apprehended or indicted.
And McRae is from Pascagoula. Can this get any more inbred?
Jackistan is even more fitting.
Jane, duck the sledge hammers.
Yep Frankofile might send his lil boys after you.
Wonder if your neighbors suffered or got to move uptown and enjoy the indoor pool? hee-hee.
Just got back from getting my ashes. Puts this other hurly-burly in a different perspective. Not that it isn’t still very interesting, as Seinfeld might say. (For you heathens on this board, today is Ash Wednesday.)
