I’m about to turn my attention to pleasanter pursuits than news-watching for the rest of the day, but not before I tell you, dear readers and commenters,* how thankful I am for your good company. folo has been up not quite seven weeks now, and though its growing community encourages me very much, I’m also looking forward to more conversation. If you’ve been reading in silence, how about
saying howdy?
Got a couple of holiday treats for you:
Yesterday the New York Times ran a fascinating little story on a new and wonderful find in Rome — deep under the palace of Emperor Augustus on the Palatine Hill, a cave full of mosaics where ancient Romans seem to have honored Romulus and Remus. Check it out and enjoy.
Also yesterday, a friend directed me to a hilarious site called xkcd.com: “a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language.” There you’ll find such treats as this, this, this, and this (y’all who know some trig and calculus will no doubt get the joke even bigger than I did). Anyhow, I recommend clicking on the “random” button to see what else you snag — many of the cartoons have mouseover taglines (hover your mouse over the frame for an extra giggle).
So: good cheer and safety to you and yours today, m’dears.

* tandress, thanks so much for your good comment on yesterday’s two Alabama threads; for reasons I don’t begin to understand, the site doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge it, but I hope you and others can see it in both spots as well as I can. In future, if you want two threads or more to see the same comment, it may be easier to put it in full on only one, then tell the other(s) where to find it (just a suggestion, I don’t mind the repeat).
Well shoot, tandress, I no sooner say it ain’t here than it shows up. Don’t know why they just didn’t name these machines “confusers” from the start and be done with it.
Back atcha, Lotus. If you’re chasing the little white ball across the long, green course today, may it be all birdies and no turkeys!
I’m a faithful reader and happy to just lurk, once in a while I may come up with something intelligent to say or even something funny, just keep baiting me, Lottie, and keep up the great work u r amazing!
Ha, al-Scoots! As it turned out, no birdies a-tall — but one very tasty turkey, consumed in excellent company, did figure in. Hope you had a boffo day too!
Welcome, wooabby! Pipe up any old time, and I’ll always be glad.
